Topeka is the capital city of the U.S. Board of Education of Topeka, which overturned Plessy vs. Three ships of the US Navy have been named USS Topeka in honor of the city.. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 127,473. The Topeka Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Shawnee, Jackson, Jefferson, Osage, and Wabaunsee counties, had an estimated population of 230,824 in the year 2009. Ferguson and declared segregation in public schools on account of race to be unconstitutional. It is situated along the Kansas River in the central part of Shawnee County, located in northeast Kansas, in the Central United States.
